Is it just me or do paleo challenges seem to be in the air at the moment? Well I was feeling a bit left out so I've decided to start one of my own tomorrow! Plus I could really use a kick in the butt. If you've always wanted to try a paleo challenge, or are just looking for that extra push feel free to join in! I'm going to outline the challenge here, and it's going to be tough I'm not going to lie. If this will be your first challenge and this sounds a bit too extreme let me know so I can modify it for you. I will be doing a 6 week strict zone paleo challenge. I've chosen 6 weeks for a couple reasons. 1) Because I've done the 21 day no sugar challenge, I've done the 30 day paleo and whole30 challenges, but I've never stuck with anything longer than that and 2) because Thanksgiving is in 6 weeks! I absolutely love Thanksgiving, it's such a great time to spend with your family and eat loads of delicious homemade food, but it's also a bit of an indulgence overload. So I want to earn that meal and this is how I'm going to do it. So for 6 weeks I will be following the zone diet for portion and meal sizes and I will be eating paleo approved foods. Because this is strict paleo it will also be a no sugar challenge with the exception of fruit (1-2 servings per day) and no alcohol. Here is the gist: 6 weeks:

  • No Alcohol
  • No grains, dairy, sugar, legumes
  • 3-5 meals per day
  • 1-2 serves of fruit per day only
  • Balanced carbs, fat and protein at each meal based on your body size and activity level. I use this from the Crossfit Journal as a reference. I consider myself to be a medium but athletic female. Since I'm trying to lose a bit of weight during this challenge I will probably consume around 12 blocks per day. Let me know if you need help calculating your blocks. This link also has the portion size of most common foods. Again, since this is also a paleo challenge choose items from the categories that are also paleo approved.

With that being said, I will keep you up to date on how I'm going and I'm happy to answer any questions along the way. I recommend weighing in on day 1 and taking some body measurements. It's great to check these after the 6 week challenge to see how far you've come! Again, I know this will be hard, but trust me it will be so worth it! Good luck.
