9 Nutrition Tips for Healthy Travel

9 Nutrition Tips for Healthy Travel

I get asked a lot of questions like "how do I eat eat healthy when I'm traveling?" Or "how do I stay on track with my diet when I'm on the road and choices are limited?" And I completely understand these challenges. But I've also learned over the years how to travel and make it work. If being heathy is a priority of yours (and I'm sure it is or you probably wouldn't be reading this) then I hope this list comes in handy. Whether you travel for work or pleasure and whether you're on a road trip or flying somewhere far away, having a plan is key. Convenient food is not always the best option, but when you're taken away from your kitchen and your routine, what are you expected to do?

Island Fitness - Gili Trawangan

Island Fitness - Gili Trawangan

I’ve been in Bali for two weeks now and what an experience it has been. When I booked my trip to the island I had expected to travel around on my own and hoped that I would fit in a few workouts with my friend Dave who owns a gym in Canggu. Little did I know I would meet a really cool group of people who I would train with and eat with and lay out in the sun with every day. They have been the sweetest people I could have met and I’m so grateful to have some travel companions while I’m here. Dave calls this group his ‘Bali Barbell Club’ and they train together most days at 10am. When he added me to the ‘Bali Barbell Club’ on WhatsApp I officially became a part of the group. And I haven’t missed many training sessions or meals out since.

Eating (and drinking) My Way Through Bali

Eating (and drinking) My Way Through Bali

I arrived in Bali a week ago. I've been staying in a cute little villa that I found on AirBnb just up from Echo Beach. It's a three bedroom and the lady Eva who owns it is lovely. The three rooms surround the pool and there's a kitchen and lounge room completely open to the outside. It's really cool. The morning after I arrived I met up with my friend Dave Driskell who owns a gym in Canggu. He picked me up on his motor bike and took me all over. My first day in Bali was epic. I ate a ton of good food, got in some solid training, enjoyed an hour long massage for 75,000 Rupiah (which is $5.55 US!) and then I laid out at the beach and ate more food.

Food, Fitness and 40 Hour Layovers

Food, Fitness and 40 Hour Layovers

On Tuesday morning I headed to the San Francisco airport for my trip to Bali. The first part, although quite long, (20 hours to be exact) wasn’t so bad. I got an entire row of seats to myself, did some blogging, watched three movies, Jurassic World, Trainwreck and Hot Pursuit, and then managed to get a solid 5 hours of sleep sprawled across three seats. I flew with Singapore airlines and they were great. They fed me good food and offered me plenty of wine, water and coffee (the essentials). Then we landed in Singapore where I was supposed to have a 5 hour layover.
