NUT BARS

NUT BARS

I felt the need to share this recipe because they're incredibly delicious. That's reason enough right? My mom got me hooked on these nut bars that she used to buy at the grocery store (yes I ate store bought bars) until I realized they weren't the best thing for me to be eating and I needed to find a healthier alternative. I tried to tell myself they were okay, they're gluten free, and just a bunch of nuts stuck together, how bad can it be? Until I read the nutrition label and it said they were glued together with Sugar, Corn Syrup, Yellow Corn Flour and Corn Oil. Eek! So I came across this recipe from Deliciously Organic and decided to give it a shot. They were so good I made a batch for a friend who was helping me with some wrist and back issues during the CrossFit Open, and she loved them so much she made them for her friend as well. So yes, they're awesome. And I'm assuming that's all the convincing you needed right? Good, because I have to get back to work now. Enjoy!

STUFFED DATES

STUFFED DATES

I've been trying to think of some yummy Easter sweets to make, and how to best paleofy them. This has proved to be a bit torturous as I'm currently whole 3oing, but since I'm currently on day 21  I've managed to stay strong. Although I will most likely celebrate with a little sweet on day 30, I'm not craving them like I normally would be and I've never felt better! If you're curious as to what the whole 30 is I suggest you check out whole9 and read their book It Starts With Food. In a nutshell (and a very Ashley abbreviated paraphrase) the whole 30 is 30 days eating strict paleo with the idea that we should be eating three balanced meals a day and limit snacking. A big part of the whole 30 is overcoming your cravings for certain things like sweets or pizza or whatever your weakness might be and also to really understand what type of foods affect your body in certain ways. That's why you cut out all grains, dairy, legumes and sweeteners because they are known to cause allergies, inflammation disease and much more. After the 30 days you can reintroduce certain food types one at a time to see how they directly affect you. It's awesome. I have more energy, I'm sleeping great, and I'm losing weight. Who wouldn't love all of these things to happen to them? Seriously, just do it. You're body with thank you. Okay back to my Easter sweet treat talk, since that's probably what you're more excited about. I came up with this recipe when I was frosting my carrot cake muffins because the frosting was so delicious and I had extra dates lying around. I thought, this would be freaking amazing together. I decided to make the frosting a bit less frosting like and a bit more nut buttery, and bam, easy and delicious stuffed dates for any party. Enjoy!

CARROT CAKE MUFFINS

CARROT CAKE MUFFINS

So I made a joke on Instagram that I wouldn't share this recipe until I found my future husband. But then I realized you'd probably be waiting a very long time. So I'll just give it to you anyway. However, if you take advantage of this delicious recipe, you can pay me back by setting me up with any hot single men you might know. You know where to find me, all forms of social media are right there to the right, just chose one and contact me. I'll be waiting patiently. What else can I tell you? The crossfit open competition just started. I've been spending my days training like a beast, and my nights chillin' like a grandma in the hopes that I will be at least adequate against the insane athletes taking over this sport. Seriously, where are these monsters coming from? My life is the gym (hence why I need you to find me a boyfriend) and I still feel inadequate. And I really don't know what to expect with this first workout. I mean its 17 minutes of burpees and snatches! Okay, burpees and snatches? Fine. 17 minutes? Shoot me! I'm a sub 5 minute kind of WODer. Hopefully my inner beast will kick in and some bundled up form of endurance which I've still yet to find will magically appear. That would be ideal at least. Good luck if your competing in the open, or good job if you've already pushed yourself through this first WOD. You're an animal!

SESAME SEED DATE BALLS

SESAME SEED DATE BALLS

I recently posted a recipe for Simple Date Balls because they were just that, simple! Simply blend some dates with a few other ingredients and you've got yourself a quick delicious treat. These are also simple, but take a tad bit more work (not a lot, just a tad) but the flavour you get is so worth it! This is another delicious recipe from my crossfit coach.

RAW BROWNIE BARS

RAW BROWNIE BARS

Well I haven't posted a recipe in a few days, apparently me on a sugar detox and strict zone/paleo diet = loss of creativity. Not that that's any excuse, I need to experiment with some new dishes. But in the meantime I thought I'd share these with you. I did not make them, I merely consumed multiple in one sitting because they were that good. My friend from the gym who brought them to our games day competition shared with me where he found the recipe and I feel it's my duty as a fellow cavewoman (I just pictured a cavewoman eating chocolate...okay so its a far stretch) that I spread the word of their greatness. To all of you not on a sugar detox, I envy you, and you're welcome.

CASHEW CHEESECAKE

CASHEW CHEESECAKE

Success!  I did a one armed handstand on the kettlebell today.  Just in case you were all hanging on the edge of your seats waiting to hear how I went this morning (which I'm sure you weren't).  But hey, it makes a nice Facebook profile picture haha.  I spent the rest of my day lounging around the house, cooking and watching movies.  Pretty lame for a Saturday, but it was freezing cold in Sydney today!  Not really worth going out.  Can summer get here already!  So todays recipe is something I made last week and adapted from My New Roots (since I'm following whole30 right now I unfortunately can't eat this) but in 25 more days you can bet this will be one of the first things I make again, it's so good!

CHICKEN FAJITA SALAD

CHICKEN FAJITA SALAD

Tonights post is more of a meal than a recipe (since I've posted the recipes for all of the components of this salad in the past) but it's super healthy, super paleo, and a great meal for anyone following whole30 like I am right now.  I'm only on day 3 and can tell I'm doomed for failure unless I come up with some new and exciting dishes!  So throw this together and pretend like you just got take away from Chipotle and devour it!

CASHEW SOUR CREAM

CASHEW SOUR CREAM

This is genius!  Seriously, I'm not sure why I was so out of the loop on this one.  I love Mexican food, and I love it smothered in sour cream (yes I'm a bit of an addict), but as you all know sour cream = dairy = not paleo.  But cashews = nuts = paleo!  Holla!  So just stash this recipe away somewhere safe because I'm pretty sure it should be considered a paleo staple!  You can love me now.  Oh and because this is apparently in in the raw food world, and I was apparently not in the know, I'm not really sure who to give credit for this, but here's my take on the recipe.
